The purpose of this document is to assist the user in transitioning from the MS-820 to the QX-830. MS-820 scanners have been used in a wide variety of applications, including food packaging, electronics manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, and other industrial environments. With the introduction of the QX-830 Compact Industrial Scanner and the QX Platform, applications that have used the MS-820 have the opportunity to simplify their connectivity, enhance their decode performance, and increase their configuration flexibility by upgrading to the new system. kA23800000008FECAY_en_US_1.pdf

Notice regarding Daisy Chain Master and Serial vs. Ethernet. When building a Daisy Chain to an RS-232 Host, ALL scanners in the Daisy chain MUST be RS-232. If an Ethernet Reader is installed, the Host MUST be Ethernet. Refer to the Configuration guide for connection examples. Be sure that the PC is powered on, and Windows is loaded. Plug in th eUSB connector, then power-on the reader. If the reader is powered-on while not plugged into the PC, it will not activate the USB interface. This applies to Quadrus MINI USB products. The MINI Hawk will operate correctly when using current firmware.

There is a feature in the QXHawk that allows multiple configuration settings. (this can include focal distance) Then when the QXHawk is in a read cycle it can scroll through these settings if it does not find symbol with the one it is currently using. This feature is called Configuration Database and is fully explained in the user manual. (Chapter 4 page 4-17+) Besides that you would either have to go through a calibration routine (Chapter 7 page 7-22+) or set the focus manually by serial command. (Also in user manual)

Order part number 98-000016-01 for the 6 inch universal arm and adapter plate. This is the same part that is used for the QX-830 and QX-870. Note: new parts include slotted holes to fit the QX Hawk. If you are using existing parts, check for the slotted holes to verify compatibility. See image below.

The attached white paper discusses Microscan MS-3 / MS-4 grounding scenarios for large, medium and mild voltage discharge scenarios typically encountered in industrial settings, and provides best grounding practice to combat each scenario. Common Ground System (MS-3 / MS-4) This is a cut from the schematic of the MS-3. It shows that signal and chassis are tied together within the unit. This is also the same for the MS-4. Note: The Wiring Diagrams show that the communication lines are not going through the IC332. These lines route straight through the IC-332 and have no components attached within. Thus this white paper address either case whether using …
