Impact of Changes to Label Management Software 7510 does not require use of a specific brand or version of label management software. LVS-7510 does not communicate information to a printer such as which label template to print, how many labels to print, data from a ERP or warehouse management system information to a printer such as the label template to print, how many labels to printer, data from a ERP or warehouse management system, or other print job specific information. Prior to a print job being run the operator recalls an inspection template from the LVS-7510 production archive that is specific to the label design about to be printed. It then waits for the la…

Under normal conditions, only one LVS-95XX-series barcode verifier model (9510/9570/9580) of each kind may be used on a single PC at one time. But it is possible for different 95XX models to be installed on a single PC, such as a 9510 and 9580 in the case of this application note. This procedure requires that you log in with the Password Of The Day login (PoTD), so contact Microscan prior to this procedure to obtain those credentials. To install: 1. Using the USB drive provided with your 9510 (or 9570), install the LVS-95XX software according to the LVS-95XX Series Software Installation Guide located at the following link: http://files.microscan.com/downloadcenter/LVS-95…

When starting the LVS-95XX software, the error "FT_GetComPortNumber returned bogus port numner -1" can appear (see screenshot below): This can happen sometimes seemingly inexplicably, but often during new installs and always when starting the LVS-95XX software. It is caused by another device connected to the PC that uses an FTDI chipset like our LVS-9570 barcode verifier. When the software is started, our FTDI driver detects the other device and assumes it an LVS-9570, but when it attempts to communicate with the device it does not receive the expected response. Solution Currently, the solution is simply to disconnect the problem device prior to starting the LVS-95XX …

The "Run-time error '13': Type mismatch" error may appear, preventing a user from opening the LVS-95XX software. This error indicates that the software is unable to find the .mdb Access Database file for the verifier. Each verifier has one of these files that is serialized to the specific unit, and the software needs to see it and match it to the attached verifier prior to opening (see screenshot below). The error is caused by one of two things: 1. The path to the .mdb file has been changed to an incorrect location in the LVS-95XX software under "Archive" > "Change SQL connection" (see screenshots below). 2. The file has been moved without changing the path in the …

There is an LVS administrator password that is calculated by date that will be required for some functions. To calculate the password, use a scientific calculator. Enter the date as MMDDYY as shown below for 120215 and then click on the highlighted button. (Single digit Months are entered as a single digit because of no leading zero in a calculator. Example for May would be 5 not 05) You will then append the first four digits after the decimal to the format shown below. This password will only be valid for this date. The password of the day for 120215 would be: OperatorID: lvs (Never changes) Password: lvs6970 ("lvs" will always precede the 4-digit calculation.) …

Impact of ISO 15416:2016 Changes to Barcode Grading Summary: The changes to ISO 15416:2016 (released December 2016) result in a transition away from the historic letter method of assigning a quality grade. The method of calculating decimal grades for several symbol parameters has also changed, resulting in some cases a higher calculated grade for a given symbol compared with the previous version of ISO 15416. The first published standard for barcode quality was the ANSI X3.182-1990, which built upon previously published barcode guidelines from the UCC (Uniform Code Council). This standard defined print quality guidelines and the foundation conce…

This error message occurs on LVS-75xx software verison 20.xxxx. The driver board installed for the LVS-7510 is programmed with authorization codes that allow for design and production mode while the 7500 is not. If this error is seen then most likely the system do not have the appropriate codes and will need to be sent their system back to Microscan to have the board reprogrammed. LVS-7510 grades barcodes according to ISO 15415/15416. The required aperture for ISO 15415/15416 is in some cases different than the required aperture when using the GS1 application standards. LVS-95xx automatically adjusts the used aperture based on the GS1 table that is selected for the application standard. LVS-7510 has a configuration setting that can be changed by an authorized supervisor to change the aperture from the default setting to an alternate value. By changing the aperture to be consistent with that used for LVS-95xx the resulting grading values will be more closely aligned. Note that the minimum allowable x-dimension for LVS-7510 is larger than for m…

EX: If a customer has a 5 mil X-dimension in a linear barcode they would select a 1.75” FOV or a 3” FOV. The 4”, 4.5” and 6.25” FOVs would not have the resolution required for a 5 mil code.
