Using MS Word “OCR” Fonts with the V410-H Handheld Barcode Scanner OCR Function

Recommended Posts

The OMRON V410-H is capable of limited OCR (Optical Character Recognition) functionality. The reader can read 6 to 60 point OCR typeface and supports font types OCR-A, OCR-B, MICR-E13B, and US Currency Serial Number.
As part of their widespread Microsoft Office suite, there are two built-in “OCR” fonts:
“OCR-A Extended“
and
“OCR-B-Seagull”
Customers utilizing Word or other Microsoft products to create documents intended to utilize this V410-H functionality should be aware that these fonts are NOT supported by the V410-H OCR function. Despite the similar names, these Microsoft fonts are not actual analogues of true OCR-A or OCR-B and will not be detected by the scanner.
