7500/7510 USB Device not recognized

If the read head and light tower USB's have been switched around on the computer the operating system has trouble distinguishing them

Please reference the attached Word document for the solution to 7500/7510 USB Device not recognized.
 

1. Disconnect the read head USB and the light tower USB and follow the procedure in figure 1
2. Follow the steps in figure one to remove the existing ports and drivers for the read head and light tower.  When removing the USB device, check the box next to delete driver.
   1. Right click "Command Prompt" in Accessories and choose "Run as Administrator" - important!
   2. Enter "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" (without quotes)
   3. Enter "start_devmgmt_msc"
   4. In the Window that opens, select "Show hidden devices" in the 'View' menu. Now all COM ports that have ever been created will be displayed. Right click and uninstall anything you don't want.

1. DO NOT CONNECT THE READ HEAD OR LIGHT TOWER USB’S YET.
2. Install the Parallax USB driver
3. Follow these steps to prevent Windows from going to the internet to get the USB drivers.
   1. Right click on "computer" in the start menu, then select properties
   2. In the 'System; settings select "advanced system settings"
   3. In 'Systems Properties' select the hardware tab, then select device installation settings
   4. Select "No let me choose what to do" and "Install driver software from Windows Update if it is not found on my computer"
