How to fix "FT_GetComPortNumber returned bogus port numner -1" error

When starting the LVS-95XX software, the error "FT_GetComPortNumber returned bogus port numner -1" can appear (see screenshot below):



This can happen sometimes seemingly inexplicably, but often during new installs and always when starting the LVS-95XX software. It is caused by another device connected to the PC that uses an FTDI chipset like our LVS-9570 barcode verifier. When the software is started, our FTDI driver detects the other device and assumes it an LVS-9570, but when it attempts to communicate with the device it does not receive the expected response.

Solution
Currently, the solution is simply to disconnect the problem device prior to starting the LVS-95XX software to avoid the conflict.
