  1. In September 2008, Microscan acquired the Siemens Machine Vision group, which through the mergers over the years can be traced back to Itran. Itran is the company developed the MVP 2000T (I-Pak Classic) vision system. In 1999, RVSI Acuity CiMatrix notified all registered I-Pak Classic customers that product support could only be guaranteed through December 2000. At this point Microscan does not provide support for the I-Pak Classic vision system. Microscan has expanded on the capabilities of the I-Pak Classic vision system over several generations of product and currently offers the Visionscape I-Pak vision system to meet the pharmaceutical packaging inspection requirements. More information on this product can be found on the Microscan website at: http://www.microscan.com/en-us/Products/Engineered-Solutions/I-PAK-Package-Inspection-System.aspx This web page provides a brief overview of the Visionscape I-Pak models that are currently offered and provides a link to the current I-Pak spec sheet.

  • NERLITE currently does not offer a SCDI-25 that uses blue LEDs. If you require a blue SCDI then you would need to use: P/N: NER-010304020 SCDI-50 V2, B LED-D, 12V-C, 6 ft. Cbl w/ DB9

  • The LVS-9570 operator manual describes the proper technique for verifying a barcode when using LVS-9570.  The unit should be pulled at a slow, steady rate toward the user in the direction toward the back of the unit (where the USB connector is located).  This is in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the outside of the housing, which is used to indicate where the center of the scanning sensor is located.  If the LVS-9570 is pulled too quickly across the label, then an over-speed error will be displayed in the LVS-95XX software and no grade will be provided.  Barcodes of up to 305 mm (12") long can be scanned in a ladder orientation, with a maximum 137mm (5.4") maximum barcode height.

  • The pinouts of all connecotrs on auto ID readers can be found in the appendix of the User's Manual, under electrical specifications. User's Manuals can be downloaded here: http://www.microscan.com/en-us/ServiceAndSupport/DownloadCenter.aspx

  • A common request is to convert RS-232 serial data to USB HID Keyboard input. The attached spec sheet is for an adapter that seems to work well as a USB Keyboard input device. The DB-9 connector will plug into any Microscan RS-232 Host cable with DB-9 termination. When using the keyboard interface, keep in mind: - All data coming from the device will be typed into any active window. this interface should not be used in automated applications. - keyboard throughput is slower than other interfaces, so it should not be used in high speed applications.

  • Here is the procedure to reset the Ethernet card: Note: Restoring the Ethernet card to its factory default settings will clear all current settings except the IP address settings and the administrator password. 1. Power off the scanner. 2. Separate the MS-890 from the wiring box using the four screws in the corners. 3. Locate the reset switch between P3 and CR1 on the Ethernet card. 3. Power on the scanner while holding the reset switch down. (Hold it down for about 20 seconds.)

  • In AutoVISION 4.0+, connect to the camera and take control (lock)
    press CTRL-SHIFT-L

The License Manager window will open to allow you remove the license from the camera, as seen below.
** DO NOT REMOVE the Machine Vision.lic **

To restore, go to license folder and rename the desired license back to *.lic

  • To do a hard reset if the HS-2D or Mobiel Hawk that is completely locked up: 1. Unplug the reader from the PC. 2. While holding the trigger down, plug the reader into the USB port on the PC. You will hear 5 rapid beeps and then you can let go of the trigger. The unit is now in Boot Mode. 3. To reset the reader, simply hold the trigger down again for approximately 5 seconds until it reboots. The reader will vibrate first and then beep several times and is now reset.

  • This procedure intends to provide a very simple way to read output values from Microscan Smart Cameras into an Excel spreadsheet (CSV format).
If the output value from the camera contains a comma (as part of a string, for example) it will be treated as a separator and not as part of the read value. In this case, please, use the “Reading Values in Excel (TXT File)” .

    1.    Reading Text Files in Excel

Usually, there are two ways to import data from text files into Excel: delimited text file (.txt) and comma separated values text files (.csv).
This procedure presents the use of comma separated values text files (.csv), with the comma character (,) used as the separator of each field of text.
Attention: If the output value from the camera contains a comma (as part of a string, for example) it will be treated as a separator and not as part of the read value. In this case, please, use the “Reading Values in Excel (TXT File)” document.

    2.    PuTTY Software

This simple solution use PuTTY (http://www.putty.org/) to read output values from Microscan Smart Cameras: PuTTY is an SSH and telnet client, developed originally by Simon Tatham for the Windows platform. PuTTY is open source software that is available with source code and is developed and supported by a group of volunteers.
    You can download PuTTY here.

    3.    Simple Example

A simple example is used to demonstrate this functionality: reading output values from two Count Tools (Number of Parts) in AutoVISION and FrontRunner:

    User-added image

    Microscan - Excel_CSV_AV.avp

    User-added image

    Microscan - Excel_CSV_FR.avp

Both AutoVISION (Microscan - Excel_CSV_AV.avz) and FrontRunner (Microscan - Excel_CSV_FR.avz) files are available.

    4.    Defining Output Format

TCP/Serial Output (AutoVISION) and Formatted Output (FrontRunner) accept the following special characters:

    \a bell
    \b backspace
    \f form feed
    \n new line
    \r carriage return
    \t horizontal tab
    \v vertical tab
    \’ single quote
    \” double quote
    \? question mark
    \ooo octal ASCII value (\145 = 'e')
    \xhh hexadecimal ASCII value (\x4C = 'L')

4.1      Defining Output Format – AutoVISION

The comma character ( , ) must be inserted between each value to be transmitted (as many as needed). At the end of the transmission, a Carriage Return (\r) and a New Line (\n) must be also inserted (\r\n).
    User-added image

4.2      Defining Output Format – FrontRunner

With much more flexibility, the Output Format can be defined in the same way as in AutoVISION (just one output string for all information) or in separate output string for each information.
Anyway, the comma character ( , ) must be inserted between each value to be transmitted (as many as needed) , and a Carriage Return (\r) and a New Line (\n) must be also inserted (\r\n) at the end of the transmission.

Defining Output Format in FrontRunner (just one line for all information) – Step Tree Editor View
    Format: %d\t%d\r\n
Additional information is available into “Visionscape Tools Reference” (Chapter 1, “Formatted Output”).

    5.    Connecting PuTTY

Into Session Category, enter the IP Address of the Smart Camera (for Emulator mode, enter ‘127.0.0.1’), the TCP Port defined in the JOB to send out the information (the above examples use the port ‘49211’) and select Telnet as the Connection Type:
    User-added image
Moving to Logging (into Session Category), select All session output option (Session logging) and define the Log file name as CSV extension.
Click on   Browse…  to define the path for this file:
    User-added image
Click on User-added image  to connect to the device / emulator.
PuTTY window is updated as soon as the data is sent out by the device / emulator (the CSV file is also updated):

    6.    Opening CSV file in Excel

When finished the acquisition (or even during the operation), double click on the CSV file:

All data will be into the spreadsheet (the CSV file can now be saved as an Excel file):

  • This problem typically occurs when trying to run FrontRunner or AppRunner software. An error: R6030 CRT not initialized message, which causes FrontRunner or AppRunner to immediately terminate. The source of the problem is a conflict with a National Instruments software component that is installed on the computer. The offending component is often located in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\mDNSResponder\nimdnsNSP.dll renaming this from .dll to .sav corrects the problem with Visionscape software and allows FrontRunner or AppRunner to start properly.
